Fancy surfing, the sea and camp life – without loud teenage parties? Welcome to Wavetours surf camp in Montalivet! The camp is located in the middle of a pine forest, just a short walk from the Atlantic Ocean, and offers the perfect combination of nature, activity and community.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced surfer, here you can burn off energy, switch off and have a great time with your group. And if you want to travel in comfort, you can book the Surfexpress from Germany directly.

Camp

Montalivet is located on the French Atlantic coast – surrounded by dense pine forests, long sandy beaches and close to Lac d’Hourtin, the largest lake in France. The campsite is well-maintained, quiet and ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy nature and a real holiday feeling. The atmosphere is relaxed and respectful – perfect for chilling out as a group, being active or meeting new people.

Our campsite has been completely rebuilt and is tailored to modern needs. The central meeting point is our covered chill-out and dining area with an integrated bar – ideal for getting together, eating and relaxing. For exercise in between, there is table football, roundnet, table tennis and surfskates, which you can use to cruise around the site or train your balance. If you still have energy left, there is also a mini ramp at the campsite for free use.

However, the heart of the camp is our team - warm, professional and always there for you. Real bonds are formed here - whether at the BBQ, in the evening at the bar or after the surf session.

Lodging

At Montalivet, you won’t find a run-of-the-mill campsite, but stylish glamping in the middle of nature. You’ll be staying in comfort and yet very close to the camping vibe - perfect for anyone who wants a little more cosiness after surfing.

Glamping tent

For up to 2 people

Our tents stand on sturdy wooden floors and are equipped with everything you need to feel completely at home: comfortable beds (double bed or 2 single beds, depending on availability), light and electricity. Here you can retreat, sleep well and still be in the centre of the camp action.

All tents are located on our exclusive camp area, which is complemented by its own clean sanitary facilities for Wavetours guests only.

Meals

Enjoy a meal with friends: Our meals are not only filling, but also delicious - and above all, you eat together.

Extended half board

You get a fresh breakfast buffet every day with everything your heart desires. You can also put together a packed lunch for the day - perfect for the beach.

Five evenings a week, our kitchen team cooks warm, balanced and delicious meals for you - a mix of regional cuisine, vegetarian or vegan, with meat or fish on request. A BBQ evening rounds off the week.

Optional: Gluten-free catering € 30 p.p. per week (only for gluten intolerance, not suitable for coeliacs).

Surfing

Whether you are standing on a board for the first time or want to improve your technique, you will find the right surf course with us. Each course consists of 5 x 90 minutes of surfing time, supplemented by 2.5 hours of theory on waves, safety and equipment. Your coaching includes warm-up, dry exercises, theory sessions and, of course, all the equipment you need for the course. So you get everything you need to get started in the water safely, motivated and having fun.

Inclusive: 10 hours incl. Equipment for the lessons

Beginner

Never stood on the board before? No problem. You’ll learn how to glide, pop up, your first take-offs and how to find your way around the line-up in safe water. Our goal: fun and first waves all the way to the beach.

Basic

Have you already taken a course or are you just starting out again after a long break? The basic course is all about technique basics, first turns and safely starting small green waves.

Intermediate

Going for unbroken waves: Do you already have line-up experience and want to improve your skills? We’ll work on manoeuvres, improve your flow and help you become even more confident in the waves.

Advanced

Are you regularly in the line-up, confident in shoulder-high waves, your take-off is spot-on and you know the right-of-way rules in your sleep? Then perhaps you no longer need a classic surf course.

A separate advanced course is not usually offered on site - but as an advanced surfer, you can rent a board from us free of charge and go surfing on your own. If you still want to refine your technique or work on manoeuvres with others, you can join the intermediate course as an alternative.

Surf team & safety

Our coaches are certified (ISA, DWV, SLSGB), experienced and, above all, passionate surfers. They will get you on the board safely - with pedagogical expertise and a lot of empathy.

We work with a 1:8 ratio - often even with an additional surf assistant.

Equipment

For your surf course, we will provide you with a board and a wetsuit in the right size – tailored to your level.

If you want to surf outside of course hours, you can optionally rent additional equipment. The rental fee for free surfing is not included in the basic price, but can be booked directly with us on site – subject to availability and in consultation with our surf team.

For beginners and basic course participants, free surfing is possible from the third day of the course at the earliest – provided that you have mastered the handling of the board and know the most important safety rules.

Activities

More than just surfing - there’s also plenty to discover away from the waves - and moments just for you.

Sights & day trips

Even away from the waves, the surrounding area is worth exploring. The small town of Montalivet-les-Bains is only a few minutes away, with surf shops, restaurants, bars and one of the most beautiful markets in the region. Perfect for an afternoon stroll or a drink at sunset.

A nearby highlight is Lac d’Hourtin, the largest lake in France: ideal for swimming, SUPing or simply relaxing in nature. If you feel like a day trip, it’s also worth taking a detour to charming Soulac-sur-Mer, the vineyards of Médoc or the lively city of Bordeaux, which you can easily reach by train or car.

Arrival

Easy way to get to Montalivet

Arrival and departure day is Saturday. Your accommodation will be available from 14:00 - perfect for a relaxed arrival at the camp. In the late afternoon, we will meet for the welcome session: here you will receive all the important information and be allocated to your surf course. The exact meeting point will be given to you at check-in. Please remember: there are no surf courses on the day of arrival and departure. Check-out is until 10:00 am on the day of departure.

Arrival options

Whether by car, train or flight - the choice is yours. The nearest railway station is Lesparre-Médoc (21 km away). We will be happy to pick you up from there for €50 each way (max. 8 people, to be paid for on site). If you travel with your own car, you will find free parking directly at the camp. Ideal for anyone who wants to be flexible on site - for example for short trips to Lac d’Hourtin, the town centre or the region’s wineries. Please note that toll charges apply on French motorways.

The Surfexpress – the comfortable bus journey

Do you want to travel comfortably and do something for the environment at the same time? Then the Surfexpress is just the thing for you. You can set off on Fridays from five cities in Germany (and Switzerland) and arrive directly at our camp on Saturday morning. The return journey starts on Saturday evening. All times are approximate and may vary depending on traffic.

Optional: The Surfexpress costs €160 p.p. plus departure point surcharge.

A lovely new family surf camp that opened for its first season this summer in Montalivet. Very nicely done, with everything you need. The focus here is primarily on children, for whom there is plenty on offer – from batik, crafts, table tennis and trampolining, etc. Children of all ages will find something to suit them here and quickly make friends to play with.

If you want, you can of course book a surfing course, yoga or mountain bike tours. In the evenings, there are activities for the whole family (completely informal), from games nights to karaoke or sunset walks.

The location is great, as it’s only a 5-minute bike ride or 15-minute walk to the village, where there is a fantastic market every day from 8 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and lots of small shops, cafés and restaurants. The beach is about 15 minutes away, or 30-40 minutes with a toddler, so a bicycle is useful (you can also hire one at the camp) or a handcart or similar.

Last but not least: the food is varied and delicious. The team are super friendly and the camp management are always approachable and absolutely open to suggestions.

This year was a magical and varied yoga experience in the enchanted forest with Debbie! Yoga has always been my oasis and time-out from everyday life. However, Debbie’s design of the training and her personal energy and charisma, combined with the surroundings of the location, created a unique atmosphere for tension and, even more so, for relaxation. I haven’t experienced anything like this in a long time :D
