SURF DM 2018 - DAY 1
IT’S ON IN SAINT GIRONS PLAGE
After almost 40 helpers from the surfing association arrived at Wavetours Camp Saint Girons on Saturday and settled into the camp, the first contest day of the SURF DM 2018 got underway on Sunday.
The longboard men started with the first call at 11am, before Lilly von Treuenfels was able to show off her skills in the longboard women’s category. Due to the number of four female competitors, the final was also surfed in this heat. The team rider was in a great mood and relatively relaxed before the start, which didn’t change in the water. How well this affected her score remains to be seen, as the final results will be announced on Thursday at the traditional Night of the Champs.
While the Groms category started afterwards, team rider Tim Elter was still able to recover, having already set off on a freesurf in the morning. In the cadets category, he then cleaned up with plenty of support, surfing his way to first place in the heat with 12.65 points. The warm and sunny weather also attracted many spectators from the Wavetours team, who watched ‘Timmi’s’ heat from the water’s edge.
As tomorrow’s conditions are expected to be even better with just under 4ft at 13 seconds and hardly any wind, everything points to a fantastic second contest day, on which the remaining classes can also start. The first call is at 9.00 am for the juniors, where some of our team riders will also be represented.
A total of 68 riders are registered, five of whom are part of the Wavetours team. Team riders Lilly von Treuenfels, Valeska Schneider, Dylan Groen, Tim Elter, Max Sylt and Arne Bergwinkl are not only closely involved in the contest, but are also in the thick of things at the Wavetours camp. All five of them can be found chilling out, playing table tennis or eating during the day before preparing for the next contest day in the evening. As the DWV helpers are also staying at the camp, this year the 2018 Surf DM can be experienced up close at Wavetours Camp Saint Girons Plage. We are excited to see what the next few days will look like and are looking forward to a great morning of surfing with good waves and the best weather.
